Creating low calorie recipes that also taste delicious is no easy task, but I do love a good challenge! I wanted to make low calorie versions of the most popular and well loved desserts whilst keeping them under 100 calories, (super ambitious, I know) and what better way to start than with everyones favorite – fudge brownies! We have now made tons of desserts under 150 calories but these brownies still have my entire heart.
I wanted to make a brownie recipe that tastes just as good as regular brownies but with fewer calories. I went through many variations of this recipe before landing on this one, but I think I’ve hit the jackpot! This recipe is absolutely incredible. I’m known as the baker among friends and family as I’m always baking up a storm. I made a batch for my family to try and they were genuinely shocked at how little calories these brownies have!
This brownie recipe makes the most rich, indulgent and fudgy brownies for only a fraction of the calories of regular brownies! You can have these brownies ready in as little as 15 minutes and with only a handful of ingredients.

They have a super rich, intense chocolate flavor. They taste very similar to traditional brownies which makes them so irresistible. The texture of these brownies is the perfect blend of fudgy and dense. They are a little more cake-like than traditional brownies. This is because this recipe contains less fat than traditional brownie recipes but trsut me, they are still insanely good!
P.s. don’t be surprised if you end up eating the entire batch, these brownies are just so irresistible! Plus, you can eat the entire batch for just 486 calories!! That’s similar to the calories in just ONE regular brownie!!

Ingredients in low calorie brownies
Exact ingredient quantities can be found at the bottom of this page.
To make the best low calorie brownies you will need:
Plain or All-purpose flour – This recipe calls for plain or all-purpose flour. For a gluten free alternative, you can use gluten free flour or oat flour.
Unsweetened cocoa powder – Unsweetened cocoa powder works best for brownies. It is super rich and dark in flavor without any added sugar and therefore, without any extra calories!
Stevia or 0 calorie granulated sweetener – Stevia is the perfect 0 calorie sugar alternative to bake with. It is naturally sourced and tastes delicious. If you don’t have Stevia, you can use any 0 calorie sugar alternative.
Baking powder – A little bit of baking powder is required for this recipe to give the brownies a little rise. For a super gooey brownie, you can skip the baking powder but your brownies may be a little flatter.
Egg – This recipe calls for 1 medium egg to hold everything together.
0% fat Greek yogurt – I always made this recipe with low-fat instead of fat-free yogurt but I tried it with fat-free greek yogurt and omg – so so good! Greek yogurt is thicker than regular yogurt which is great for making these brownies super fudgy.
Unsweetened almond milk – Unsweetened almond milk is very low in calories. You can use any milk you would like for this recipe, but the calories will increase! (it will be such a small increase though so don’t worry about it!!).
Vanilla extract – No brownie recipe is complete without a hint of vanilla.
Dark chocolate chips – To tie everything together, add in your favorite chocolate chips! Although this recipe calls for dark chocolate, feel free to use milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate or any chocolate you love!

How to make the best low calorie brownies
This recipe is so simple and can be ready in just 3 simple steps!
- Whisk together the wet ingredients. Sieve in the dry ingredients and fold until smooth.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and pour into a prepared 8 x 8 inch baking tin.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool before slicing and enjoy!
Top tips
- Try not to over mix the batter – One thing I have found with this recipe is that it is more cake-like in texture if you over mix the batter. There is nothing wrong with that at all, they’re still just as delicious! But if you’re wanting more of a dense or fudgy brownie, try to mix the batter just enough so everything is combined without overdoing it.
- Give the brownies time to cool – It can be tempting to slice into these brownies straight out of the oven but it’s best to give them a few minutes to firm up and cool. They’ll be more dense and less likely to fall apart once slightly cooled! I find that 10-15 minutes is the perfect amount of time to allow the brownies to cool.
- Mix in some white chocolate – I love love LOVE adding white chocolate to my brownies! Add in half dark and half white chocolate chips for the ultimate, delicious low calorie brownie!

Storage
These brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. You can also refrigerate them for up to 7 days in an airtight container.

can you use applesauce instead of yogurt for dairy free??
Hi Caroline, you can do but the brownies might be slightly on the dry side. I would recommend dairy-free yogurt if you can get it or just add 1 tsp of oil along with the applesauce to keep them moist!
hello!
I have been looking for a low cal tasty brownie recipe to help with those WFH snack cravings – but if I wanted to add make these with a higher protein content and add protein powder, will I need to adjust quantities?
thanks!
Hi Kate, you can definitely make these with protein powder! I would suggest using 20g of protein powder and 30g of flour. Let me know how that works out 🙂
Thank you so much! I will give it a go this weekend – really appreciate the response!!
Do you think you could use water with protein powder mixed in instead of milk? If so what measurements would you recommend?
Thanks! Keen to try these!
Hi Kierralee, you can definitely use water instead of milk. I would do a 1:1 ratio of water to milk so you can substitute an equal amount of water instead of the milk!
Hey! Do i need a mixer for this or can i beat the eggs up by hand?
Hi Alina, you can beat by hand! 🙂
hi, when you say to whip the eggs until fluffy, do you mean until stiff peaks form?
Hi Michelle, no. The eggs should be fluffy – almost foamy. They will double in size and get lighter in color. This should only take a few minutes!
I cant find a stevia to splenda or stevia to sugar conversion chart anywhere. Does anyone know how many grams of splenda is equal to 50 grams of stevia?
50 grams of splenda would be a massive bag.
Hi Hanna, there should be a conversion on the bag of Splenda you get. The stevia I use is a 2:1 conversion with sugar so it’s half the amount of sugar I would use. This recipe would therefore require about 100g of sugar! Hopefully that helps 🙂
can you use water instead of milk?
Can you make more low-fat and egg-free recipes? Thank you, you are great
