Autumn is my favorite time of the year and there is nothing better than a delicious, warm crumble to curl up with. Typically, crumbles are quite high in calories due to them containing lots of sugar, butter and flour.
I wanted to make a recipe that tastes just as delicious as a regular crumble but with far fewer calories. That’s when I made this 90 calorie apple crumble. I was (and still am) genuinely obsessed with this recipe!
I tried to make a berry version with a more authentic crumble and I think this is the BEST low calorie berry crumble that actually tastes like a regular crumble too! It has a delicate soft berry center with a crispy crumble layer.

Ingredients
- Mixed berries – I used frozen mixed berries which work best for this recipe. You can use fresh berries too but I find that the texture always comes out a little funky with fresh berries. Feel free to mix it up and use any fruit of you choosing for a fun twist!
- Lemon juice – This recipe calls for a little lemon juice to add a little flavor and balance out the sweetness of the berries. You don’t need to add lemon juice but I would definitely recommend you do!
- Stevia – Stevia is used to slightly sweeten the berries as well as the crumble itself. Stevia is the best 0 calorie sweetener to use for baking but there are a ton of other great alternatives too. You can use any granulated sweetener here.
- Plain/all-purpose flour – This recipe calls for plain flour to make the crumble topping. You can use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version. You can also use oats or oat flour here too.
- Oats – Only a small amount of oats is actually required. It adds a delicious almost crunchy quality to the crumble.
- Applesauce – The applesauce acts as a binder for the crumble topping. It is a super low calorie alternative to butter. You can also use low fat butter here but the calories will be a little higher.
- Cinnamon (optional) – Adding a dash of cinnamon to the crumble layer really gives it that Autumn dessert feel.

- Add the topping to the berries and bake for 25 minutes.
Top tips
Toss the frozen berries in a little flour – Before baking the berries, toss them in a little flour. This will add a few extra calories but it will improve the texture so much. The berries will come out thick and almost jam-like in texture!
Eat warm – This berry crumble is made to be eaten warm (duh) but don’t let it cool too much. I like to give it a few minutes to cool just so it doesn’t burn my mouth lol.
Top with ice cream – I loveee this crumble with some low calorie ice cream. I typically go for the Halo Top birthday cake flavor. I know it sounds like it doesn’t pair well but trust me, it is such delicious combo!

I am anxious to try the single serve berry crumble! If I make it into four ramekins, can I store the remaining in the refrigerator?
Hi Christine, you can definitely make them ahead. I would suggest preparing them ahead in their ramekins and secure tightly with plastic wrap, I wouldn’t leave them for more than 3 days in fridge so 3 servings may be better than 4. Only bake them on the day you want to eat them. Hope that helps!
