- All-purpose flour – I used regular AP/Plain flour. You can use gluten free plain flour for a gluten free alternative.
- 0 Calorie brown sugar– Okay so I am seriously obsessed with 0 calorie brown sugar but you can opt for good ‘ol stevia or any 0 calories granulated sweetener. I’ve found 0 calorie brown sugar to produce the best cookie texture though!
- Matcha powder – To make the best matcha cookies, use ceremonial grade matcha powder!
- Baking soda – A little baking soda goes a long way in helping the cookies spread and rise.
- Applesauce – Applesauce is a great alternative to eggs and butter. This helps keep the calories super low whilst holding the cookies in shape.
- Olive oil – A small amount of olive oil is used in this recipe to help keep the cookie intact and give it a delicious texture. You can swap out olive oil for any oil you would prefer.

- White chocolate chips – I used regular white chocolate chunks. For an even lower calorie and completely sugar-free cookie, you can use sugar-free chocolate chips. Use vegan chocolate for a vegan alternative.
HOW TO MAKE THE BEST LOW CALORIE MATCHA COOKIES
These cookies are really easy to make and can be ready in just 5 simple steps!
- Pre-heat oven to 180°C (356°F).
- Mix the wet ingredients together.
- Fold in the dry ingredients.
- Scoop 3 equal spoonfuls onto a prepared baking tray. The dough may be a tad wet so don’t panic! You can allow the dough to rest for 15-30 minutes in the refrigerator to set.
- Bake for 8 minutes and let the cookies cool on the baking tray before transferring onto a wire rack to cool completely.
TOP TIPS & STORAGE
- Refrigerate before baking – Chill the cookie dough for at least 15 minutes before baking for the perfect chewy cookie. Chilled cookie dough also produces a firmer cookie.
- Don’t over-bake – When these cookies come out of the oven, they’ll be very soft and can look under-baked. But they will firm up and bake more as they cool so avoid over-baking.
- Sprinkle with salt – A sprinkle of sea salt makes a cookie just that little bit better.
STORAGE
These cookies can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for 3-5 days. They are also suitable for home freezing, place them in a zip lock bag and freeze for up to 6 months.
