To make this low calorie chocolate milkshake you will need:
0% fat greek yogurt – Traditional milkshake recipes use ice cream to get that thick and creamy milkshake consistency. 0% fat greek yogurt is the secret to getting that thick, ice cream texture without the excess calories! Plus, yogurt is quite high in protein so it’s much more macro friendly. You can also replace with low calorie ice cream alternatives for a more authentic milkshake. Opt for a dairy-free yogurt for a dairy-free alternative.
Unsweetened almond milk – To add volume and get the perfect creamy and smooth milkshake.
Unsweetened cocoa powder – To get a really rich, dark and intense chocolate flavor, unsweetened cocoa powder is the way to go. Investing in a good quality, minimal ingredient and sugar-free cocoa powder makes a world of a difference when making chocolate sweet treats.
0 calorie syrup – To sweeten this milkshake, 0 calorie liquid sweetener is the way to go. My favourite syrup for this recipe is good ‘ol 0 calorie vanilla syrup. You can go for any flavor you would like though. Granulated sweetener won’t work for this recipe but 0 calorie powdered/icing sweetener will work too. Although I have put a set measurement below for the sweetener, use as much or as little as you need to get your preferred sweetness level.
Ice – Since we won’t be using ice cream, blending this milkshake with ice will give it that thick and ice-cream like consistency! Make sure you use lots of ice and a blender that is capable of blending ice.

How to make low calorie chocolate milkshake
You won’t believe how simple this recipe really is – it has just 1 step! 1 SINGLE STEP!
- Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend on high until smooth and well combined. Add less milk for a thicker, creamier milkshake. If you want a thinner milkshake, add more milk. Transfer to a glass and serve with a little light cream and enjoy!
Substitutions
Milk – The calories for this recipe are so low partially due to the use of almond milk. You can use any milk you would like but the milkshake will be higher in calories. 2% fat milk is probably the closest to unsweetened almond milk in terms of calories.
Yogurt – There is no substitute for yogurt in this recipe other than low calorie ice cream. Halo top and Jude’s both do delicious low calorie ice creams which you can substitute for the yogurt in this recipe. Use 100g of ice cream in place of yogurt.
0 calorie syrup – Liquid syrups work best for this recipe. You can use any syrup of your choosing but the calories only reflect 0 calorie syrups so if you use a syrup that contains calories, make sure to include it in your own calculation. I have an entire post on 0 calorie syrups including lots of different options for any drink.
