This low calorie french toast isn’t only what breakfast dreams are made of but they’re also the perfect sweet treat to end the day! This recipe is so quick and easy to make and at just 495 calories, it’s really a no brainer.

I am very much a savory breakfast kind of gal but if I’m ever in the mood for a sweet breakfast, my go-to is always ALWAYS french toast. It is soft, sweet and filling – what is there not to love? So of course I had to get to work and make a low calorie version. When I was in a calorie deficit, I thought there was no way I could have french toast for less than 500 calories but boy was I wrong. I wish I had this recipe back then! Plus, this recipe uses all the classic ingredients in traditional french toast so there is no compromise on taste or texture!

Imagine it’s a Sunday morning, you had a slow start to the day, jazz playing in the background in a cozy robe and you want to extend the cozy vibes – make this low calorie french toast! It has become somewhat of a tradition for me now and I look forward to Sunday’s more than ever before.
This recipe uses regular brioche bread, even though you can get lower calorie bread, it is really worth the extra calories. I have made this recipe with low calorie bread and while still good, it is a million times better with brioche! For reference, each slice of brioche bread is around 110 calories so using lower calorie bread will decrease the overall calories.

Ingredients in low calorie french toast
Exact ingredients can be found at the bottom of this page.
To make this low calorie french toast you will need:
Brioche bread – Everyone knows french toast is best with brioche bread. It isn’t the lowest calorie option but it is incredible and very necessary. You can opt for low calorie bread like the Warburtons danish bread for an even lower calorie option.
Egg – One small egg to make the custard.
Unsweetened almond milk – You can use any milk here but unsweetened almond is the lowest in calories.
Ground cinnamon – Duhhh!!
Vanilla extract – I recommend using vanilla bean paste, trust me it makes a world of a difference and is worth the higher price! You can opt for vanilla extract here if you prefer.
Oil – To cook the french toast.
Maple syrup – We’re not skimping here – maple syrup is a french toast MUST!
Fresh berries – Nothing beats french toast with fresh berries! I used blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.
