Oatmeal cookies have been a very highly requested recipe for the longest time. I get a request for these cookies at least once a month because who doesn’t love an oatmeal cookie? And we all know chocolate chip oatmeal cookies are vastly superior to raisin oatmeal cookies. Don’t get me wrong, I still love me a good oatmeal raisin cookie but chocolate chips are where it’s at. These cookies are so easy to make, require just 9 ingredients and have 63 calories per cookie!
Since these cookies contain oats, they can be enjoyed for breakfast, right? These cookies make the perfect little sweet treat to enjoy with your morning eggs for a savoury and sweet breakfast or as a snack throughout the day. Paired with a cup of coffee, it really feels like you’re treating yourself to a delicious bakery treat whilst staying in your calorie deficit!
Ingredients in low calorie chocolate chip oatmeal cookies
Exact ingredient quantities can be found at the bottom of this page.
To make these low calorie chocolate chip oatmeal cookies you will need:
Unsweetened applesauce – Unsweetened applesauce is a staple ingredient in all my low calorie cookie recipes. It adds moisture and texture without adding any extra sugar or fat and for very few calories! It is the perfect alternative to butter. You can use low fat butter/margarine here instead of the applesauce but the calories will be higher.
0 calorie brown sugar – 0 calorie brown sugar alternative is an alternative to brown sugar without adding any calories. It adds texture and color to these cookies. You can opt for any 0 calorie sweetener here but keep in mind they all have different ratios to sugar so you may need to adjust the amount you use.
Egg – This recipe calls for one room temperature egg. To quickly get a refrigerated egg to room temperature, set it on the kitchen counter for at least 30 minutes.
Vanilla – Is it really a cookie recipe without vanilla?
Plain/all-purpose flour – A little plain/all-purpose flour to add texture to these cookies. If you would prefer to make these cookies just with oats or oat flour, you can do that as well.
Baking soda – To help the cookies spread and rise a little.
Ground cinnamon – To add flavor.
Oats – I used organic jumbo oats for this recipe and I find that they give the best texture. You can use any oats you have to hand including porridge oats!
Chocolate chips – Dark, milk or white – your choice! You can even do a combination of all three if you’re feeling cheeky!
