To make this low calorie banana bread for one you will need:
- Banana – You can’t have banana bread without the banana! For this recipe, you’ll need 1/2 of a really ripe banana.
- Plain or all-purpose flour – This recipe calls for plain/all-purpose flour. To make this recipe gluten-free, opt for gluten-free flour or oat flour.
- Stevia or granulated sweetener – Any granulated sweetener will work for this recipe. Stevia is my personal favorite and is the closest in taste to sugar.
- Baking powder – This will help the banana bread rise.
- Ground cinnamon – Cinnamon adds a delicious flavor to this recipe!
- Applesauce – Applesauce is a great alternative to fats like butter/oil and eggs. It helps develop that soft, moist texture of banana bread. You can replace the applesauce with butter but the calories will be higher.
- Vanilla extract – A little vanilla extract goes a long way for adding some flavor to this recipe.

Top tips for the best banana bread
Use very ripe bananas – For the sweetest banana bread, make sure you use really ripe bananas. The more brown spots, the better! If you don’t have ripe bananas, the best way to ripen them quickly is by placing them in the oven. Place your banana on a baking sheet and bake at 150°C (302°F) for 35 minutes.
Don’t over mix the batter – Over mixing this banana bread batter will lead to a dry and tough banana bread. Mix everything just so it is well combined, don’t worry if there are any lumps.
Double this recipe – For a delicious low calorie breakfast, double this recipe. I have made this recipe for breakfast countless times and it is super filling for just 300 calories! You can replace the flour with oats to make banana bread baked oats, see below for the instructions.
