Easy 5 minute healthy nacho bites
Summer time is almost here and there’s nothing better than enjoying healthy snacks in beaming sun! This season calls for lots of fresh, juicy fruit and and veggies. This nacho bites are a bright, vibrant way to enjoy some veggies in the bright sunshine.
Nachos are a popular snack this season. Consisting of tortilla chips, piles of cheese, beef, beans and so much more. They’re truly a sensational snack. However, they are packed with calories and fat (which is exactly what we need every now and again). When in a calorie deficit though, it can be difficult to enjoy the foods we once loved without feeling guilty or going over our daily calorie goal.
That’s why I love making low calorie foods that taste just as good and won’t have you feeling like you’re missing out!
These nacho bites are super light, packed with flavor and very low in calories. They’re the perfect snack to make this season whilst enjoying all the festivities summer has to offer.
These easy 5 minute healthy nacho bites are super simple to make, require only 5 ingredients and take no more than 5 minutes to put together. This recipe is also very customizable to your taste so you can add to and take away from as you please.
The details
The base for these nacho bites are sour cream and onion thins. They’re just as crispy and delicious as a tortilla chip but are far more filling. These nacho bites are made by layering sour cream and onion thin, mashed avocado, prawns, a little salsa and topping with a slice of jalapeno.
Effort – When I tell you these delicious treats require no effort at all, I mean NO EFFORT at all! All you need to do is pile a few ingredients onto the thins and you’re good to go.
Ease – This recipe is super easy to make and can probably be done by a 5 year old. That’s truly how simple it is. You don’t need anything but 5 ingredients, a plate and an appetite for some delicious nacho bites!
Taste – These easy 5 minute healthy nacho bites are packed full of flavor. They taste really refreshing and light. Not to mention spicy. If you’re a lover of spicy food like me, this recipe will definitely keep you satisfied.
The ingredients you need
- Sour cream and onion thins – Sour cream and onion thins are my favorite flavor for this recipe. You can use any flavor thins you would like though. If you don’t have any thins or you would prefer an alternative, this recipe also works great with mini rice cakes. However, they tend to get soggy quite fast so eat them quickly to avoid this (believe me you will have no problem wolfing these down – they’re so delicious).
- Mashed avocado – The mashed avocado in this recipe is substituting the guacamole you would find in regular nachos. You can use guacamole if you would prefer, I’m just personally not a fan of guacamole.
- Prawns – This recipe uses prawns instead of beef because prawns are super low in calories. You can always use beef or any protein of your choosing. This recipe is very easy to customize and you can swap and add in whatever you would prefer.
- Salsa – Salsa is used in regular nachos and of course has to be included in this recipe. It is delicious, low in calories and adds a little kick to the nacho bites.
- Jalapeno slices – These are optional. If you are a spice lover like me, the more the better!
How to make these easy 5 minute healthy nacho bites
This may be the simplest recipe I have posted to date. You can have these easy 5 minute healthy nacho bites ready in 2 simple steps.
- Spread your mashed avocado/guacamole onto the thins.
- Add all your toppings and enjoy!
That’s it! It’s really that simple. Again, this recipe is highly customizable so you may need to include a few extra steps to make these nacho bites to your taste.
Tips on making these easy 5 minute healthy nacho bites
Although this recipe is super simple and easy to make, here are a few little tips to ensure you get the best results!
Vegan option – To make this recipe vegan, swap out the thins for either vegan thins or mini rice cakes. Also swap out the prawns for any vegan protein you’d like. I would recommend vegan mince, it’s a delicious alternative to regular mince meat. You can also use beans to replace the prawns.
Storage – These nacho bites are best served the day they are made. However, if you don’t end up finishing them all in one go (good luck, they’re seriously so good), put them in an airtight container and store in the fridge for 1-2 days.
Serving sizes – 3 nacho bite count as a single serving and so this recipe produces 2 servings. You can double or even triple this recipe if you would like to make more for friends or family. I wouldn’t suggest making more than the recipe calls for if you don’t plan to eat them within 1-2 days of making. The thins will get soggy and the avocado won’t stay fresh for long.
